The Promwad Innovation Company has made its contribution to the implementation of a unique project - the launch of commercial production of plug computers, the first in Russia and the second in the world. The project customer and the manufacturer of new devices is AK-Systems, while Promwad experts are developers of the product’s hardware and software platform and its enclosure.                                                

In June 2011, AK-Systems launched the first mass production of IP Plug mini servers (“plugs”) in Russia, designed for different market segments, from special applications to SOHO (Small Office / Home Office).

The hardware platforms of these devices are based on the Marvell ARM 1 GHz processors. AK-Systems can produce about 50,000 computers by the end of this year, i.e. achieve an annual output of 100,000 units.

IP Plug AK-Systems mini servers are designed to perform a wide range of tasks in IP networks. They are powered by a household electric network and operated by Linux Ubuntu. A special feature about these devices is their small size (a little bigger than a mobile phone battery charger) and low power consumption.

A plug may be part of a LAN or WAN and function as a computer or server. It is also used for measurement of computer network parameters, confidential data storage and transmission, multimedia content playback, data routing and other tasks.

According to AK-Systems experts, the price of mini-servers will not be higher than 200 USD (it varies depending on the product’s configuration and field of application).

Plug devices that have already been manufactured are intended to be supplied to business customers; however, AK-Systems is planning to start assembly of IP Plugs for the retail market this fall. The anticipated Plug sales for home use is about 10,000 units per quarter.
