''Embedded Systems'' Publishes Promwad’s Article about OSEK Operating System

Embedded systems magazine published in its third issue Promwad’s article about OSEK – operating system for automotive electronics. OSEK is primarily designed for application in applications for automotive electronics and at present moment supports major types of embedded microcontrollers. The creation of a highly intellectual car of the Future, connected to a computer network, requires building a standardized platform capable of managing all car equipment. Can OSEK help car manufacturers in building and introducing a standardized platform? You can find the answer to this question in the article by Eugene Dubovik, Promwad’s software engineer, - OSEK – operating system for automotive electronics. Embedded systems magazine published in its third issue Promwad’s article about OSEKEmbedded systems magazine publishes in its third issue Promwad’s article about OSEK – operating system for automotive electronics. OSEK is primarily designed for application in applications for automotive electronics and at present moment supports major types of embedded microcontrollers: HC08, HC12, 683XX, MCore, Motorola PowerPC. Metrowerks, an independent subsidiary office of Motorola, included Motorola’s OSEK operating system into its CodeWarrior debugging kit. OSEK operating system complies with the Automotive Open System Architecture (AutoSar) standards.

Nowadays there is a wide range of real time operating systems worldwide. Building a highly intellectual car of the Future, connected to a computer network, requires building a standardized platform, capable of managing all car equipment, from engine to multimedia system. This is quite an important task, because earlier software needed to control maximum five automotive devices, but today in some models of representative class the number of such devices can reach hundreds. Common operating system could save time for developers and decrease coding needs. Not the least of the benefits of introducing a unique standard for automotive software is that it could increase predictability and security of such system on the whole.

Can OSEK help car manufacturers in building and introducing a standardized platform? You can find the answer to this question in the article “OSEK – operating system for automotive electronics”.
