Promwad Participates in the First International FOSS Sea 2008 Conference
The First International FOSS Sea 2008 Conference was held in Odessa and it was devoted to the problems of development of free software in CIS-countries and its introduction in the spheres of education and science.
As key purposes of the event, the organizers stated the discussion of prospects of free software development and initiation of new projects aimed at applying such software in science and education for providing effective communication between participants of free software community and optimizing the process of information interchange between them.
Within FOSS Sea 2008 Conference Promwad specialists Vladimir Shakhau and Evgeny Sobal made a report on the topic SoC systems based on AD Blackfin / uClinux dist platform. The main focus of the report was on practical application of free software on the examples of projects successfully completed by Promwad and peculiarities of interaction between a contract developer and community of free software.
Promwad experts introduced the series of Blackfin processors and boards from Analog Devices, Inc. to the audience of the conference, and also showed practical application of these technologies on examples of several implemented projects:
Despite the complexity of the topic, the listeners were interested in practical application of uClinux-dist, in particular in localization of kernel’s configuration files and the list of necessary applications, and whether this distribution supported Blackfin boards of 5XX series. Promwad specialists gave extensive answers to these and other questions. In particular, they pointed at the fact that Promwad developed a range of patches for U-Boot, Linux Kernel, uClinux-dist for Blackfin platform. The audience accepted that as a proof that the company not only used ready solutions of free software community but also made its own contribution to it.
The increasing popularity of such conferences as FOSS Sea 2008 displays the efficiency of free software in applications, and also confirms the correctness of Promwad policy oriented to application of Embedded Linux, that allows creating quality products that meet modern requirements of high technologies market in tight schedule.
