Samsung Processors Applications for Digital Signage Industry
One of the leading Embedded System engineers, Sergei Kovalev, shares his experience in development of electronic devices and systems for digital signage, this popular worldwide growing industry. Taking the recent company projects and the best examples of software and hardware innovations, he presented his own vision of the industry prospects:
"As you know, solutions for digital signage allow audio-visual communication with visitors of public places: stores, airports, train stations, etc. Bright screens should attract attention personalizing the information and making automatic selection of content for the target audience. This is a real revolution in advertising: it’s transition from annoying addressless appeals to much more effective communication with each potential customer. Modern technology can do it. So, systems for digital signage can be equipped with a digital camera, and with the help of specialized software it can detect the audience, determine sex, age and other specific characteristics of people (for example, "see" whether they wear sunglasses and other accessories) and display relevant advertising".
Nevertheless, despite exciting possibilities of interactive multimedia content, not every technology offered on the market can use all the available benefits of digital signage. Kovalev demonstrated by examples that experts in digital advertising often use ineffective solutions. He stresses that "when developers ignore the particular software and hardware solutions for digital advertising, the Russian advertisers can not employ all the hidden potential of multimedia targeted advertising”.
How is it possible to overcome existing hardware and software limitations in electronic devices for digital signage? Why the use of specialized players (such as a decision based on PDK Pegasus) moves you up to the next qualitative level? The answers to these questions are given in the last article by Sergei Kovalev, which was published in TheElectronic Components Magazine (# 3, 2010).
